Ball Striking MASTERCLASS: Contact
Let’s talk about strike location; where you’re hitting that golf ball on that clubface – hopefully not out of the toe or the heel, not too low and not too high either.
Awareness of where your golf ball strikes the club is a very important skill to develop. Knowing if it hits the toe or the heel or even the center of the face or if it’s too low or too high can really allow you to customize your training plan to give you a better idea of what you need to achieve with your golf swing.
You can use two pieces of equipment (shown in the video below) to first of all identify where you are striking the ball on the club face. Then, you can try out some exercises and drills if you find that if you’re hitting it too much out of the toe or the heel of the golf club as well.
Here are some great exercises to hit that golf ball each and every time:
- Hit a shot and see where I’m striking the golf ball so that one felt like it came out pretty nice and as we can see fairly well in the center of the clubface maybe slightly out of the toe. So I’d be pretty happy with that strike there maybe lose a little bit of ball speed off the club but nothing worth stressing too much about.
- You need to hit five or ten shots, then have a look at the pattern that you’re developing and you’ll start to find out your tendencies; are you hitting a little bit too much out of the heel or simply the toe.
So first of all building an awareness of where you’re striking the ball on the quad is paramount to knowing number one what you’re doing when the club approaches the ball.
If you don’t have strikes spray, you can simply use a permanent marker or something similar and you just grab the ball and you just color a few dimples in on the golf ball.
