Ball Striking MASTERCLASS: Setup

In this fourth instalment of the ball-striking masterclass, we’re going to be talking about the set up; how to position your body in the address position before you take that golf club away.

This can really make or break the quality and your ability to get that club returning nicely back onto that ball.

Here is a quick drill you can try:

  1. Ideally you need to have your ankles lined right underneath your armpits. To do so, simply drop the club and let it hang vertically from your armpit.
  2. From there, look for a slight flare off the toes, this is just going to help add some rotation throughout the golf swing with some stability and balance.
  3. For the ball position, as a general rule of thumb, try to have it about one club head inside the lead foot so the ball position does not really shift throughout the swing.
  4. Extending on from that ball position one club head inside the lead foot and then what I would like to see to give yourself once again the greatest chance of good quality contact would be to have your upper body and your lower body shifted ever so slightly left towards the target.
  5. You’re gonna have about 60% of your weight on that lead side and you’ll also notice your shoulders have a slight little tilt to them in this position.
