Cure Your Yips with This Simple Short Game Fix

Cure Your Yips with This Simple Short Game Fix

This article will help those afraid of short shots and struggle to hit them because they get paralyzed and have too much tension in their setups.

 The problem

In the setup, we can notice a rigidness in the lead arm and too much tension in the wrist, and then as we pull the golf club away, we can see very little motion of the body in the backswing.

There would be no natural pivot initially at backswing in such a situation. It worsens when we create an extra pivot at the downswing. Eventually, we will lose control over our strike, and we wouldn't know where the club will hit the ball; the result would be a thin shot.

Continuing like this only builds anxiety. Try the below drill to undo these soft shots and play in the green effectively.

The drill

We need to soften things up to use the clubhead's weight and make some adjustments during the setup.

 Follow this drill:

  1. Pump your arms to relax them and ease your shoulders to get rid of stiffness that we don't want.

  2. Your arms and chest need to be soft at address.

  3. Hinge the club up with a slight movement of wrists and elbows.

  4. Pivot the body back and bring the club to a great position in the backswing.

  5. Let the club fall.

 Summary

If you are stressed while playing the short shot, the result would be a thin short. Relax and get rid of tension in your arms and shoulders, create some pivot and bring down your club using its weight.
