Easy Drill To Stop Spinning Out In The Downswing

This drill is especially helpful for those who get to the top of their swing and start to over-rotate and spin out as their golf club approaches the ball.

To do this drill, you will simply need two alignment rods. You will use them to learn how to control the lower body. This will in turn help you minimize the amount of rotation you have as you start a downswing.

Here it is:

  1. First, put a practice rod down on the ground as a reference for your alignment.

  2. Then, grab another stick and stick in the ground at about a 45-degree angle. This will essentially be a reference point for what we want our trail leg or the right leg for the right-hander to do throughout the downswing.

  3. Next, in the address position, scoot in nice and close so you’ve got a little bit of room between your shin and where the rod would intercept.

  4. Start off with some practice swings, the way that we would want to feel that our body is moving in sync with the downswing.

  5. You need to be moving with a more lateral shift or a shift towards the target, placing some more pressure in that lead foot.
