Golf: Short Game Stance Width

One of the easiest ways to think about how wide to stand in the golf swing is relative to the amount of speed you’re trying to produce.

For example, if I am close to the green and close to the hole itself and I’m doing a chip and run or a pit shot well I’m not really in need of creating a big rotation essentially we have a wide stance to help us maintain our balance as we create a big turn try and create lots of speed and send that ball some distance.

But if I’m close to the green and close to the pin, I don’t really need any of that now one of the issues with having a wide stance is it just makes it easier to shift from my right foot to my left foot and being for the fact that the bottom of my golf swing is going to tend to be where my shirt buttons are located.

So for example, if my shirt buttons are in between my feet the bottom of the swing would tend to land there. If my shirt buttons fall behind, then I’m going to tend to hit the ground behind and also too far in front.
