How To Start The Backswing

In this article, I will teach you how to start your backswing correctly, especially if you’re struggling with taking that golf club away or want an easier way to start your backswing.

Here is the drill:

  1. Instead of focusing on the golf ball too intently or being so transfixed on hitting the golf ball that you don’t move enough, try to have a bit of waggle and shuffling between your feet. Do so when you’re shifting your pressure from your left foot to your right foot and moving the golf club back and down up and towards yourselves. This just releases a lot of tension in your body and gives you the ability to create a more fluid motion rather than a series of mechanical movements throughout the swing.

  2. Add a little bit more athleticism to your motion. In practice, it would go like this: shift pressure between your right foot and your left foot and give yourself some momentum to then swing back into your right foot and free up your body. This allows for a smoother flowing motion.

Sometimes little tidbits like this can make a massive difference to your ability to infuse more freedom into your motion and help declutter your brain of all the technical thoughts clouding your mind before a game.
