How To Turn The Hips In The Backswing

I will teach you how to figure out how much of a hip turn you’re getting in the golf swing, using two alignment rods. You can also use this drill to improve the quality of your motion are relative to your individual mobility hip turn in the backswing.

Using the two sticks, you can figure out how much hip turn you’ve got at the moment through the following:

  1. Grab the red stick and simply place it between your belt in the address position.
  2. Once you’ve done that, this is going to be indicative of what we would call let’s say zero degrees of hip turn.
  3. The next step from that is to place the other alignment stick between your feet on an angle that is somewhat representative of 45 degrees. It doesn’t have to be perfect with the alignment stick down on the ground but close enough.
  4. So if we’ve got zero degrees here, 90 degrees would be square. So that would be more so a reference for your ball position or something similar.
  5. Once the stick is placed down within your feet, close your eyes and make a swing to the top and then stop from there.
  6. Then, look down and see the reference difference between what you’re doing with the stick attached to your hips and the stick down on the ground.
