Simple Short Game Technique To Lob Like A Pro

One of the big areas that a lot of players struggle with is those shots around the green is getting the clubface closed at the moment of impact. If this is something that you struggle with, I have the perfect drill for you.

 The problem

A big issue or contributor to poor pitch shots that we see around the green is simply a club face that gets too close to the golf ball or a leading edge that digs into the ground.

Here is the drill to help you solve it:

  1. From the address position, get your club face a few degrees open.

  2. Set up in a way that has your ball position slightly further forward. Check out one of my setup videos for pitching to make sure you get it right.

  3. Then, have the handle slightly back of where it would normally be for an iron shot. Essentially, it should be  more towards the center line of your body.

  4. Put your grip in a slightly weaker position and encourage some cupping of the lead wrist while helping the club face stay open.

  5. Hit a shot from the face on view, with the club face slightly open and ball position forward. Let the club glide beautifully through the grass with no divot whatsoever.
